| 23 January 2008 |
2254 - Coastguard requested launch after they had received a call from
the Master of the Strangford Ferry who reported that the Sarah May 111
had dragged her moorings & was drifting up into the Lough. Lifeboat crew
located vessel after approximately 5 minutes and took her in tow back to
Strangford and handed her over to the owner. The vessel was started by
the owner and taken to another mooring in Strangford the lifeboat
returned to station. |

| 26 January 2008 |
1603 - Coastguard requested a launch after they had received a call from the
local Police that a person was in the water between Rough Island and the
shore at the north end of Strangford Lough. Whilst Lifeboat was enroute the
coastguard reported that the casualty had made it ashore by himself and the
boat could return to station. |

| 21 February 2008 |
1447 - Coastguard requested launch to assist a motor vessel which had run
aground on Islandmore at the entrance to Ringhaddy Sound. When the Lifeboat
arrived on scene the casualty was stuck fast on an ebb tide and was unable
to give any assistance. The 2 crew on the casualty made the boat secure and
went ashore to await the following high tide. |

1142 - Coastguard requested launch to assist a 6.8m rigid inflatable with
three persons aboard which had broken down close to Craigyouran Pt. The
Lifeboat located the casualty and took it in tow back to Strangford
Harbour. The lifeboat returned to station. |

1010 - Coastguard requested launch to assist three people who had taken a 2m
dinghy with only one oar and had got into difficulties close to Whiterock.
Lifeboat arrived on scene and found the three casualties who had been in the
water and had managed to scramble ashore on Rainey Island. Lifeboat
recovered the three people and took them back to Ballydorn Quay. Lifeboat
then recovered the punt and returned it to the shore before returning to
station. |

1058 - Coastguard requested launch to assist a 6.7m Rib with ten divers
aboard. Lifeboat launched and located casualty close to Ringburr Pt. A
tow line was secured and the boat was towed back to Strangford Harbour
before returning to station. |

1536 -
Belfast Coastguard requested launch to assist the owner of a Leisure 23 who
had become trapped in the hatch. Lifeboat arrived on scene to find only the
persons legs visible at the hatch and he was unable to move. Lifeboat crew
had to cut 2 sections of the cabin away to allow the gentleman to be removed
and taken to the shore. |

1220 -
Belfast Coastguard requested immediate launch to assist a 7m working Rhib
which had capsized in Strangford Narrows. Lifeboat launched but when
arrived on scene a second work boat had already recovered the 4 crew and was
taking them ashore. |

Belfast Coastguard requested launch to assist a yacht with four persons
aboard which had become caught up in a lobster pot strap. Lifeboat located
casualty, cut the rope which fouling the propeller and towed the boat to the
Quoile Yacht Club. |

Belfast Coastguard requested a launch after they had received a 999 call
from a member of the public that a person was missing near Whiterock. The
Lifeboat launched but was returned to station before reaching the search
area. |

1414 -
Belfast Coastguard requested a launch after the lighthouse keeper at St.
Johns Pt. reported that a kayaker had left the area 3 hours previous and had
not returned. Lifeboat searched from Killard Pt. to St Johns Pt. until the
coastguard discovered that the kayaker was in fact paddling his way to the
Isle of Man. |

Belfast Coastguard requested launch to assist a dive boat with five persons
aboard which had broken down close to Chapel Island in Strangford lough.
Lifeboat launched, located casualty and towed it back to Strangford Harbour. |

Belfast Coastguard requested launch to assist a 14ft dory with two persons
aboard which had broken down close to Bird Island in Strangford Lough. The
Lifeboat launched, located casualty and towed it to Ringhaddy. |

1448 -
Belfast Coastguard requested launch after they received a phone call from
the mother of the 2 men that they were in difficulties close to Whiterock.
Lifeboat launched and recovered 1 casualty from Rainey Island. The other
casualty had made a repair to the engine of a small punt and had set off
across Whiterock Bay and was located close to Trasnagh Island. He was taken
aboard the Lifeboat and the punt was taken in tow to the pontoon at
Strangford Lough Yacht Club where the police were waiting to interview the
men about the punt. |

2021 -
Belfast Coastguard requested launch to a yacht with three persons aboard
which had run aground. Lifeboat launched and located casualty on the north
side of Janes rock. Crew secured a tow and used a halyard to heel the boat
over before towing the vessel into deep water. Casualty vessel continued its
passage under its own power to Strangford Lough Yacht Club. |

2356 -
Belfast Coastguard requested a launch after they had received a call from
the wife of the man on the Rhib, she had received a phone call from him
stating that he was disorientated and unsure of his position in Strangford
Lough. Lifeboat launched and located casualty close to Ballyhenry Point and
escorted the boat back to Strangford Harbour. |

| 11 July 2008 |
16:20 -
Belfast Coastguard requested immediate launch after they had received a 999
call from a person who reported that a man had entered the water to recover
a punt, which had drifted away from the shore. Whilst enroute to the scene
Lifeboat crew were informed that the person had been recovered to the
pontoon at the Quoile Yacht Club by 2 members of the public and they had
started CPR on the casualty. When the Lifeboat came alongside the crew
assisted with CPR until the ambulance arrived. The ambulance crew then
continued to work on the casualty for some time before transferring him into
the Police helicopter. He was then taken to hospital where he was
pronounced dead. Lifeboat crew then recovered the casualty's boat back to
the Quoile Yacht Club before returning to station. |

1123 -
Belfast Coastguard requested immediate launch to assist a canoeist who had
capsized and was unable to get back into the canoe and was being blown off
shore at Cloughey Bay. Whilst en-route to the search area a Jet Ski had
launched from the beach and recovered the casualty and took him back to the
shore. Lifeboat arrived and recovered the canoe and took it back to the
beach before returning to station. |

Belfast Coastguard requested a launch to assist a capsized dinghy with two
persons aboard close to Newtownards Sailing club at the north end of
Strangford Lough. When the lifeboat arrived on scene they were informed that
the crew had already made it ashore. The lifeboat returned to station. |

2113 -
Belfast Coastguard requested launch after they received a 999 call from a
person on a 17ft Dory with 5 persons aboard who reported that they had run
out of fuel between Killough & St. John’s PT. Newcastle ALB was also
launched to assist.
After a search of the area the Portaferry lifeboat crew located the casualty
close to the shore with their boat very close to the rocks. The lifeboat
took the casualty in tow to Ardglass Harbour escorted by Newcastle ALB who
used their spot light to locate the many lobster pots in the area. |

1608 - Belfast
Coastguard requested a launch after they received a 999 call from a member
of the public who reported finding a small tender drifting in Ringhaddy
Sound, which they towed back to the shore. The lifeboat searched from Pawle
Island at the south end of the sound to Dunsy Island at the north but no
evidence of anybody in trouble was found. The returned to station. |

0949 - Whilst
Lifeboat was out on exercise they received a call on vhf from a 7.5m Rhib,
with 13 people onboard, which had lost engine power in Strangford Narrows &
requesting assistance. Lifeboat was only 200m away at the time and was
alongside in under a minute. Lifeboat took casualty vessel in tow back to
Strangford harbour where they had launched earlier. |

Standby - Paged for immediate readiness by Belfast Coastguard after they had
received a call from a member of the public who was concerned about a small
tender with 2 persons onboard, which was out in severe weather in Ringhaddy
Sound. Crew were stood down after it was confirmed that the 2 men had made
it back to the shore safely a short time later. |

0646 - Belfast
Coastguard requested a launch to assist a 8m yacht which had run out of fuel
8 miles south east of Saint John's Point. The skipper had also broken his
spectacles and was unable to hoist sails due to tangled rigging. Lifeboat
crew located the yacht with the assistance of VHF/DF from Newcastle ALB,
which had also launched to assist, and a flare fired from the Yacht. When
Lifeboats arrived on scene Newcastle ALB took Yacht in tow to Ardglass
Harbour. Lifeboats returned to station. |

1502 - Paged by
Belfast Coastguard after they received a 999 call about a glider type object
ditching in the sea off Ardglass. When lifeboat arrived in search area they
discovered a large number of balloons tied together, which was confirmed by
the first informant as the object they had seen. Lifeboat crew recovered the
balloons and returned to station. Lifeboat returned to station. |

1713 - Belfast
Coastguard requested a launch to assist a small boat with 2 persons onboard
which had broken down approximately 2 miles south of Kircubbin. Lifeboat
located casualty vessel 20 minutes after reaching the search area and towed
it back to Ringhaddy sound where it had left earlier in the day. Lifeboat
returned to station. |
